Hello friends!--Anne and I enjoyed a nice trip south to Phoenix and Tucson recently. Sunshine is good ;) We stayed with David and Janis Findlay in Tucson and enjoyed a fun dinner with John and Debbie Blackburn as well. Always good to hook up with members of our Onati group wherever the opportunity presents itself. Hope you are all well and that our paths can cross again soon.

We spent our spring break in Istanbul, Turkey and enjoyed what that crossroads city had to offer. We've been to some amazing places during our almost 36 years of marriage and Istanbul doesn't take a back seat to any of them. Amazing setting, wondeful sights, people, and food. Easy to get around and like any place you can live it up or enjoy yourself without breaking the bank. We always try to use the Hop on/Hop off bus when we first get to a city to orient ourselves. Along with the bus the tram…

Hello to all (especially to those of you living in the Basque Country right now!)
We are planning our summer trip home to the states and are going to spend time--maybe 2 weeks--
in the Basque Country and were hoping to see as many of you as possible if you're around. We'll fly into Bilbao and the rest of the trip will depend on where and when we wind up with any of you. Being back in Onate is a must and all other stops would be great. We might rent a car to drive the Cantrabrian…

We hope this finds all of our good friends enjoying the fall and readying themselves for Thanksgiving. It's hard to believe that we have been living/teaching in Sarajevo, Bosnia for three months! We've seen and done a lot and hopefully the weather will cooperate so that we can get in more little day and weekend trips. The fall is glorious here and we took a beautitful drive north of here to a small town called Olovo. We get out on the weekends to ride our bikes through downtown Sarajevo and out…

Dobar dan Onatzkis--
We survived our first two days of school with kids. Fun being back in the classroom with kids from all over the world as that global perspective is refreshing. Yesterday we took our first major road trip out of the city to Mostar. It is the unofficial capital of Herzegovina and very famous for its bridge. We wound through the mountains for about two hours/80 miles and found ourselves in a much different climate than in Sarajevo. It was a sweltering 100F so frequent…

Stir-Crazy — 10 Months in Euskadi!
BY: Guillermo (Bill) Yriberri
Has it been 10 months already in the Basque Country? It must be, because the novelty seems to be wearing off. I feel almost like a real citizen of this land once again (1974 - 1975). That may also be why I'm taking a critical eye to a lot I see ....
Like this afternoon. I'm cooking a dish that could use a little tomato sauce, but the cupboard is bare. "Oh, that's right," I remember, "I can open…

Friends--
Anne and I have enjoyed our first five days here in Sarajevo adjusting to our new digs, the language, school, apartment etc. Just back from a very fun night in the old town eating, drinking, and dancing. The people are great and the location/scenery are spectatular. Getting around in our Renault is pretty wild as the narrow streets and wild drivers make for some challenging driving. We have our eyes closed the entire time:) Hope you are all well.

Mike - thanks so much for sending those amazing photos of San Lorenzo (which it always will be named, as far as I'm concerned)! It's amazing to see that courtyard after all these years ... the setting for many good times and hilarious events (e.g. dragging Joan's mattress - with Joan - for placement in the courtyard).
I'll share the photos with those gathering in Portland.
Cheers!

Mike - how wonderful about your family's trip to Onati! For those of us who travel with you in spirit, please hike up to Aranzazu, have tinto and tapas in the town square, say hello to everyone you meet, eat melacoton melba, visit San Lorenzo, tour the chocolate factories (are there any left?), etc. etc.

In July and August 2007 Bea, Michael, Jone, and I went to Oñate, first flying to Barcelona to see relatives and then driving through Aragon and Navarra to the Basque Country. On the way we stopped at some places I had visited in "the old days": Belchite, the Monasterio de Piedra, the Monasterio de Leyre, and Pamplona. I wrote about my second trip to Belchite upon returning to Charlottesville and posted it on a blog site along with photographs taken by Jone. I reprint (reblog?) it here for…

Friends--We're counting down the months until we head out on next big adventure in Bosnia. We're hoping see many new and old sites during out two years there. Onate and other places in Spain are definitely on our wish list of places to visit especially after seeing many recent photos of the area that people have posted from their recent visits to the Basque Country. Does anyone have Sheila Fritz's e-mail address as we're hoping to spend some quality time in Onate? We've been in touch with Jaime…

There are thousands of social sites like this one on the Ning site (browse some of them by starting at www.ning.com), and probably many thousands more all over the Internet. Each one is different, each has a "personality" reflecting the interests and activities of its members.
One thing we are able to do on this site is collaborate. We are few members still, but enough to work together on a project or two! Let's start off with an easy one.
First, join the group for…

I have a CD full of photographs from the reunion 3 or 4 years ago. It has several folders of pictures submitted by many of you, and quite a few pictures taken at the reunion itself. I would like to upload them to this site, but first I want to get permission from those of who originally took them.
Can I hear from: Bonnie Kern, Debbie Blackburn, Frank Etxaniz, Joan Baker, Joan Sullivan, Joe Daniels (The Golfing Machine), John Blackburn, Kathy Stevens, Kay Hummel, Rob Johnson, Ron…
